How To Handle Grief

We all experience loss at some point during our lives. After these losses we must deal with the process of adjusting and moving on with our lives. When the loss is the death of a loved one or friend, the grieving experience can be one of the most challenging things we ever face.

It is important to remember that grieving is not just a one time event. Grieving happens over time and usually takes longer than we expect. The experience of grief is different for all of us, so don’t be concerned if your feelings are different from another person’s. Each of us needs to experience our grief in our own way and in our own time.

It is essential for us to get help in coping with a loss. Accepting offers from friends to help around the house or run errands can give us time to deal with other things. Talking about our feelings with family or friends who are committed to listening can help us move through our grief. Attending a support group is often valuable because the members may have experienced similar losses and can give us understanding and encouragement.

Brust Funeral Home have people who can be helpful to those who have experienced the death of a loved one. Feel free to contact them for information for yourself, or for someone else you know, who may need help in dealing with their loss.

Grief Resources

"A grief shared is a grief diminished" has become a common understanding for those assisting others working through their grief.  Brust Funeral Home in Lombard maintains what is probably the largest resource of grief materials in DuPage County. There is a lending library of books and video tapes as well as several pamphlets that are supplied without charge.
