Obituary

Alex J. Gaines Jr., age 70, of Aurora IL, passed away on May 7th, 2022.

He was the loving husband of Janice M. nee Scanlon; beloved father of Stephenie (Donald) Castle, KT (Colleen) Gaines; cherished grampie of Jordan, Kyle, and Allie Castle; dear son of the late Alex J. Sr. and the late Jean Gaines; caring brother of Beatrice Gaines, the late Lyman, the late Samuel, and the late Rhonda; fond uncle of many nieces and nephews; dear friend and son-in-law of Julie Scanlon.

Alex was a proud Navy Veteran, having served in the Vietnam War. He grew up in Alabama and was a retired Journeyman Millwright. Alex started the Aurora Chapter of PFLAG.

A Visitation will be held on Wednesday, May 11th, from 4:00 until 9:00 PM at Brust Funeral Home, 135 S. Main Street, Lombard. Lying-in-State will occur on May 12th at 10:00 AM, with a Funeral Service to follow, at Calvary Episcopal Church, 105 W. Maple, Lombard. Interment at a later date, at Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery in Elwood, IL.
