Obituary

Bernadette Whalen, age 89, of Lombard, passed away peacefully surrounded by family on May 16, 2022.

Bernadette was the loving wife of 60 years of the late James Whalen; dear daughter of the late Edward Hynes and the late Anastasia Ryan; dear mother to Mary Therese (Michael) Peters, Michael (Inge) Whalen, Peter (Sheila) Whalen, the late Edward, Ann (Mark) Brinkman and Elizabeth (Robert) Grogan; adored grandma of Sean Whalen, Bethanne (Steve) Viren, Joe (Melanie) Peters, Tim (Melissa) Whalen, Julie (Brandon) Bailey, Brian (Rhea) Peters, James (Kelly) Peters, Jennifer Brinkman, Bridget (Ted) Brust, Kevin Brinkman, Jack Peters, Julie Brinkman, Jayne Peters, Sara Brinkman, Brenna Peters, Colin Whalen, Claire Whalen, Kelly Brinkman, Anastasia Grogan, Emma Whalen, Robert Grogan, and Evelyn Grogan; great-grandmother of 16; dear sister of the late Catherine Hynes, the late Jane (the late Bill) Schneider, Mary Ann Hynes, Margaret (the late Richard) Martin; and dear aunt and relative to many.

Bernadette was a long-time member of St. Pius X Church, where she was an active volunteer at St. Vincent DePaul Society, the Food Pantry and in the Prayer and Rosary Group.

Bernadette loved helping and taking care of all of her grandchildren.

A Visitation will be held Monday, May 23, from 9:30 AM until the time of funeral prayers at 10:30 AM at Brust Funeral Home, 135 S. Main St., Lombard, thence to 11:00 AM Mass at St. Pius X Church, 1025 E. Madison St., Lombard.  Interment will follow at Queen of Heaven Cemetery, Hillside.

In lieu of flowers, memorials to St. Vincent DePaul Society, c/o St. Pius X Catholic Church, 1025 E. Madison Street, Lombard, IL 60148, would be appreciated.
