Chick Eissler, 98, formerly of Lombard passed away June 8, 2022 in La Jolla, CA.
Chick is survived by his children, Mark (Laurie) Eissler of Northville, MI, Holly (John Sequeira) Given of La Jolla, CA, Melanie (Thomas) Rottmann of Lombard, IL and 6 grandchildren: Jonathan Eissler of Antioch, IL, Christie Eissler of Santee, CA, Holly Rottmann of Plainfield, IL, Robert Rottmann of Lombard, IL, Caroline (Nate Craig) Given of Los Angeles, CA and Natalie Given of Seattle, WA. He was preceded in death by his wife of 69 years, Betty.
A World War II veteran, Chick was born and raised in Evansville, Indiana to Elmer and Elma Eissler. Growing up on the outskirts of town, he enjoyed a rural childhood exploring the woods and swimming in the creek with his brothers. He enlisted in the Navy in February 1943 during World War II and trained at Great Lakes, IL. At graduation he met his future wife, Betty. He had additional training in mine warfare at Yorktown, VA and then duty at the Mine Assembly Base in Hawaii restoring old mines left over from WWI. He attained the rank of Mineman First Class when he was Honorably Discharged in 1946.
After marrying, Chick and Betty settled in Chicago and Chick went to college on the GI Bill obtaining a BS in Physics from the Illinois Institute of Technology and later an MBA from the University of Chicago. He began his career as a radio engineer at Motorola and retired as Vice President of Sales – Cable Products from Zenith Corporation. Together he and Betty raised their family in Lombard before initially retiring to St. Charles, IL and then to Carlsbad, CA with a final return to the Lombard area to be closer to family. He was blessed with a long and happy retirement where he spent his time reading, gardening, traveling and spending time with family especially his grandchildren teaching them to hit a baseball and play Bingo and Uno.
Chick was a former member of Elmhurst American Legion and Toastmasters.
A Visitation will be held on Wednesday, June 22nd at 9:30 AM followed by Funeral Services at 10:30 AM at Brust Funeral Home, 135 S. Main St., Lombard. Interment at Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery in Elwood.
