Dr. Morgan M. Meyer

Dr. Morgan M. Meyer, age 95, of Lombard, died September 21, 2021, at Lexington Square in Lombard.

A private, family graveside service will be held at Chapel Hill Gardens West, Oakbrook Terrace, IL.

Dr. Meyer is survived by four sons, Dr. Paul, MD (Pamela) of Lombard, Rev. Mark D. of CO, Pastor of Christ Episcopal Church, Canon City, CO., Steven J. (Maureen) of Evanston & Daniel J. (Mary) of Wheaton, seven grandchildren, Jessica Meyer (Tonya Noah) of Phoenix, AZ, Mark (Anne) of Wheaton, Matthew Meyer of Austin, TX, Logan Meyer of Chicago, Morgan Meyer of New York City, Allison Meyer of Chicago, and Jack Meyer of Evanston, two great-grandchild, Liam Meyer and Maggie Meyer of Wheaton. He was preceded in death by his parents, Harold and Imogene Meyer; a brother, Harold Meyer, and a sister, Barbara Sublette. 

Dr. Meyer was a resident of Lombard from 1952 to 1992, Glen Ellyn from 1992 to 2010 and Lombard from 2010 to 2021. He was born in Aurora and graduated from West Aurora High School. He enrolled in the University of Illinois in Champaign in 1943 but was drafted into the Navy early in 1944.  After boot camp, he re-enrolled in the University of Illinois under the V-12 Navy College Program.  In 1945, he entered the University of Illinois College of Medicine in Chicago, where he met Carol Rehder.  They were married in 1948 and they graduated from Medical School in 1949.  Morgan then served two years in the Navy before he and Carol moved to Lombard in 1952.  Morgan did his residency in Internal Medicine at Hines VA Hospital before he started full-time practice in Lombard.  He was one of the founders of, first, Meyer, Meyer & Albers in Lombard and then of DuPage Medical Group (when his practice merged with others) and was instrumental in the planning of the new Good Samaritan Hospital in Downers Grove, serving as the first full-time Chief of Staff. He was Past President of the Medical Staff at Elmhurst Hospital. He was active in the American Medical Association, the Illinois State Medical Society (serving one year as President), and the DuPage County Medical Society. He taught clinical medicine a half day a week at the University of Illinois Medical School, on a volunteer basis.  Dr. Meyer was a faithful member of First Church of Lombard, where he served as Moderator after retiring from active medical practice.  He was awarded the honor of being named Lombard “Man of the Year” in 1990.  He was a lifelong lover of golf.
