Helen Rakow nee Troyke, 86 years, entered into eternal life Nov. 2, 2021.
Helen was the loving wife of 47 years the late Donald Rakow, beloved mother of Jeffry of North Carolina, Beverly (Charlie Nix) of Lombard. Grandmother to Steven (Amanda), Misty (fiancé Ross), and Heather (fiancé Jeff). She was preceded in death by her husband, parents Albert and Gertrude, brothers and sisters Norman, Elsa, Ann, Albert, Phil, Richard and grandchildren Matthew and Barry. She is survived by her sister Leila Schlak of Lombard.
She was born May 15, 1935, at home at 145 S. Charlotte, Lombard. The house her father built. She was baptized and confirmed at St. John’s Lutheran Church, Lombard, where she was a lifelong member. She was married on April 23, 1955, to Donald Rakow. She was a strong Christian woman who was active in the Sunday School, Altar Guild, Mary Martha, Lutheran Women’s Missionary League, Mission Quilter’s, the Choir and Handbells. She was passionate about mission work and showed her love for it on a trip to Romania.
In her life she graduated from Glenbard High School in Glen Ellyn and worked as a Bell Telephone operator and as an Administrative Assistant at Becker and Associates Manufacturing in Lombard.
Funeral Services will be held Monday, November 8, with Helen Lying-in-State from 9:30AM until the time of the Funeral Service at 10 AM at St. John’s Ev. Lutheran Church, 215 S. Lincoln St., Lombard. Interment to follow at Chapel Hill Gardens West, Oakbrook Terrace. Visitation Sunday, November 7, from 3-7 PM at Brust Funeral Home, 135 S. Main St., Lombard.
