It is with our sadness that we announce the passing of Josephine Abrant, formerly of Villa Park, into the arms of God on February 4, 2021 at the age of 92. Our sadness is overcome by her joy because she is with the Lord and back together with her beloved husband, our dad.
Josephine Frances Abrant was born on March 19, 1928 to Jacob and Mary Shubat of Chicago. She was the beloved wife of the late Walter; the loving mother of Ann Marie (William) Moore, Robert (Lori), Ronald (Susan), and Dianne (George) Butkovich; devoted and cherished grandmother of Virginia (fiancé Shawn Murphy), Johanna, Jacob, and Margaret Moore; Olivia Abrant; Kristen (Andrew) Lee, Mariel (fiancé Kevin Weber), and Lauren Butkovich; and dearest sister of the late Florence Shubat. Josephine was a loving aunt to many nieces and nephews, “Aunt” Jo to others, and a dear friend to many.
Josephine married Walter, the love of her life, in 1949 and moved to Villa Park where they raised their four children. Jo, as she was often called, and Walter were founding parishioners and active members of St. Pius X Parish in Lombard. Josephine was a member of the Altar and Rosary Society, Medical Missions, and the VIP Club. For years she hosted monthly Medical Missions meetings at her home where she and her fellow members sewed bandage wraps and hospital gowns for both foreign missions and struggling areas of America. Josephine loved gardening and was passionate about her vegetable and flower gardens. Along with her husband Walter, she was also a dedicated member of AMVETS Post 68 and American Legion Post 1941.
Josephine was always resilient in life and strong in her Catholic faith, regularly attending Mass, Rosary, and Benediction services at church until Fate sidelined her. Even while in nursing care, she continued to attend Mass, pray the Rosary, and receive the Sacraments.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated in memory of Josephine on Friday, February 19, at 10:30 a.m., at St. Pius X Catholic Church, Lombard, IL. A private farewell and burial will take place at Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery.
Our mother will truly be missed, but will remain in our hearts and be an influence in our lives forever. Thank you to all who have shared your time and love with Josephine in her joyous life’s journey. Memorial donations in her memory may be made to American Legion Auxiliary, Robert E. Coulter Post 1941, 900 S LaGrange Rd, LaGrange, IL 60525.
