Martha Ella Milas, age 97, of Lombard, passed away June 18th, 2022. A visitation will be held Saturday, June 25, 2022, from 8:45 AM until the time of prayers at 9:45 AM at Brust Funeral Home, 135 S. Main St, Lombard, proceeding to 10:15 AM Mass at St. John the Apostle Church, 330 N. Westmore Ave, Villa Park. Interment will follow at Assumption Cemetery in Wheaton.
Martha was the beloved wife of the late Edward L. Milas. She is survived by her loving son, John (Presy) Milas of Lombard; cherished grandchildren, Paula (Thaddeus) Sochacki and Edward (Amy) Milas; dear great-grandchildren, Ashley and Leila Sochacki; and fond nieces and nephews, Linda (John) Czub, Steve (Charla) Hartje, Ronald (Juliana) Tragasz and Richard (Cynthia) Tragasz, the late Nancy, William, and Philip Hartje; many other nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. Martha is preceded in death by her brothers, William (Lois) Hartje and Philip (Dorothy) Hartje.
Her family were early American settlers in New York’s Mohawk Valley. Martha was born on February 26th, 1925, to German and Dutch immigrants, the late Philip Hartje and the late Letha nee Schmerhorn. She grew up in the rich farm area valley of Schenectady, New York. She worked during World War II at the U. S. Pentagon to help schedule supplies to the troops. She met her husband Edward, a Navy Submariner, in 1944 and they were married on November 25th, 1945.
She moved to Chicago with her husband in 1946 and relocated to Lombard in 1972. Their only son John, was born in 1948 and Martha devoted her life towards being a homemaker. Her interests including cooking, sewing, listening to music, walking her dogs, going for car rides and playing cards/games. Martha enjoyed being part of raising her two grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. She attended most of their sporting events and school functions.
She had just celebrated her 97th birthday and celebrated 74 years together with Edward in a loving marriage. Together their greatest joys in life were their family and devotion to one another. Martha had a rich and rewarding life as a loving wife, mother and grandmother.
