It is with great sadness that we announce the death of Mary Ann Christianson. She passed away peacefully on January 17, 2021 at the age of 86, surrounded by her children at Good Samaritan Hospital in Downers Grove, IL. She was born in Green Bay, WI as an only child to Harold & Marie Toonen. She was married June 18, 1955 in Green Bay to David E. Christianson and they were married for 57 years before he passed away on July 7th, 2012 in Lombard, IL where they had resided since 1975. Before that David was a TSGT for the United States Air Force for over 25 years. They had a wonderful life together filled with travel and making many great memories with family and friends. Growing up in Green Bay Mary Ann was an avid Packer Fan and still was even after having lived in the Chicago suburbs since 1975. When Mary Ann decided to go back to work she did desktop publishing for the next 20 years in Lombard, IL. They also spent many happy years traveling all over the United States in their RV along with family and friends.
Mary Ann & David had 4 beautiful children. Their first child Mark passed away suddenly after birth in Green Bay. She is survived by 3 children and their families. Diane Clayton (58) who was born in Tachikawa Japan and now resides in Aurora, IL with Rob (husband) and their 2 adult children Ryan & Bradley. Daniel Christianson (55) born in Cheyenne, WY and now resides in Waukesha, WI with Jennifer (wife who passed away from cancer in the summer of 2020) and their 2 adult children Dakota and Jessica. Mary Cox (47) born in Mildenhall, England and now resides in Lombard, IL with Keith (husband) and their 3 adult children Jeremy, Preston and Heather. They had a very full life of traveling, being in the Air Force and Mary Ann was a wonderful mother who loved all of her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren dearly and will be missed by everyone who was fortunate enough to know her. She has 7 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren.
Mary Ann has completed her journey here on earth and now it’s time for her to not have anymore physical restrictions such as wheelchairs, canes and walkers that she had here on earth. She was the heart and soul of our family and we will cherish all the memories that have been made over the years.
For those of you who knew her, you know she was a very strong willed woman. She was also very wonderful and was loved and cherished by all who met her. Because of COVID we will not be having a memorial service for her. She will be laid to rest with her husband David at Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery in Joliet, IL. when the weather is nicer.
THE BROKEN CHAIN
We little knew that morning that God was going to call your name.
In life we loved you dearly.
In death we do the same.
It broke our hearts to lose you, you did not go alone;
for part of us went with you, the day God called you home.
You left us peaceful memories,
your love is still our guide;
and though we cannot see you, you are always at our side.
Our family chain is broken
and nothing seems the same,
but as God calls us one by one, the chain will link again.
