Ramona Cabrera, 84, passed away peacefully on January 9, 2022.
Born August 1, 1937 to Jose Piloto and Estrella Llerena, Ramona, wife of the late Jose Cabrera; mother of Estrella (Robert) Ryan and Humberto Cabrera; beloved grandmother to Brian (Alicia) Mui and Ashley (Felipe) Salgado; beloved great-grandchildren Adan Salgado and Isabella Mui. Ramona was preceded in death by her parents and 8 of her 9 siblings.
Emigrating from her native country of Cuba to the United States in 1971, Ramona strived to provide a future complete with growth and opportunities for her children. She was not afraid of the unknown or the challenges that lay ahead.
In Cuban culture, the term “Mima” is used to address our mothers, but in Ramona’s case it meant much more than that. As a Mima, she was strong, fearless, loving, selfless, and a mother to everyone she met. Grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and family friends alike sought out her comfort of warm welcomes, home cooked meals, and the typical “mother knows best” advice.
While heartbroken at the loss of our Mima, we are grateful for the many years and memories we shared.
A Mass will be held on Tuesday January 18, 2022 at 10:00 AM at Sacred Hearth Church, 114 S Elizabeth Street, Lombard.
