It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Rev. Dr. Rogelio T. Pangilinan (retired UMC Northern Illinois Conference clergy) on Monday December 27th from a cardiac arrest at Good Samaritan Hospital. He died after failed resuscitation attempts with his wife, Rachel Pangilinan, and his son, Roger Pangilinan Jr., beside him.
Pastor Roger received his Bachelor/Master of Divinity from Union Theological Seminary in 1969 and ordained from the the United Church of Christ in the Philippines Southern Tagalog Annual Conference in the same year. He continued at Princeton Theological Seminary in New Jersey in 1974 receiving his Master of Theology and his Doctor of Ministry from Bethany Theological Seminary in Oak Brook in 1990.
Pastor Roger served for 15 years as the founding pastor to the congregation which later became St. John's United Methodist Church in Oak Park after merger. He then served for 17 years at Elston United Methodist Church in Chicago and retired in 2010 after 48 1/4 years in active ministry. He continued to serve as a part time pastor at Faith United Methodist Church in Lombard for 3 years.
He leaves behind wife Rachel Pangilinan (who would have celebrated 54 years of marriage this coming January 6), son Roger Pangilinan Jr. (married to Debora Pangilinan) and daughter Richelle Villanueva (married to Michael Villanueva) along with grandchildren Angel Pangilinan, Jacob Pangilinan, Aria Villanueva and Christian Villanueva.
A Service of Worship in Celebration of Life will be held this coming weekend, Saturday January 8th at Gary United Methodist Church, 224 N. Main Street, Wheaton. A time for Personal Prayer and Reflection will begin at 2:30 PM, until the time of the Service at 3 PM.
