Rose M. Johnson, nee Miller, of Carol Stream passed peacefully in her home among family on July 6th.
Rose was born December 12th, 1935 in Chicago to Marie and Gabriel Miller. She grew up in Lombard with her brother Richard. After graduating in 1954 from Aurora Madonna High School for Girls, Rose took her first job In Chicago doing secretarial work. She met Roland, her loving husband, one summer day in 1951. Roland would leave for the Marine Corp. in 1951, and later served in the Korean War between 1952 and 1953. Rose would send letters and brownies to him while he was overseas. Despite contracting Polio in 1956, the couple would marry on September 28th, 1957 at Sacred Heart Church in Lombard. They would be married for 64 years.
The couple bought their first house in Glen Ellyn, before moving to Villa Park in 1959. After having four children, the family moved to Wheaton in 1971. Rose and her husband created a loving home on National Street, where she would support her children in her work as a Cub Scouts Den mother, a Brownie troop leader, and PTA president. She delighted her children with baked treats and handmade crafts. Rose had a knack for meticulously hand sewing everything from Halloween costumes to choir outfits to dance recital attire.
In addition to being a loving wife and mother, Rose spent her time as a preschool teacher, a school bus driver, and a customer service representative. She retired at age 65.
Rose leaves in her wake a loving family -- a husband, Roland; four children, Patti, Scott, Randy and Donna; three grandchildren, Derrick, Mason and Mara; a great-grandson Dawson; 10 step-grandchildren; many step-great-grandchildren; a brother, Richard; sister-in-law Ruth Ann Miller; and countless other relatives and friends -- who intend to carry on Rose's legacy of compassion and kindness.
Memorial Visitation Friday, July 16, from 2 PM until time of service at 4 PM at Brust Funeral Home, 135 S. Main St., Lombard.
