William Barker

William Barker, 88 of Lombard, IL, passed away on March 11, 2022.

He was the beloved husband to the late Madelynn “Maddy” Barker for 50 years; loving father to Robin (Jeffrey) Bolton of Winfield, Sandra (Eric) Hohenstein of Warrenville, Edward (MariJo) Barker of Lombard; dear grandfather of Kelly (Thomas) VanHout of Naperville, Bradley (Jessica) Bolton of Mundelein, Daniel Hohenstein of Warrenville, and Gregory Hohenstein of Warrenville; fond great-grandfather of 5.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Madelynn "Maddy"; his parents, George and Astrid Barker; and his siblings, Edward Barker and Edith Long.

William served in the United States Army as an Intermediate Speed Radio Operator. He graduated from Valparaiso University 1957, where he played football.

He was an avid fisherman and was very proud of sailing in the Mackinac Island Race in his younger years.

William had been a longtime member and volunteer with St. John’s Ev. Lutheran Church in Lombard, where he was an usher, member of the choir, and played on the dart league.

A Visitation will be held on Thursday, March 17, from 3:00 PM until 8:00 PM, at Brust Funeral Home, 135 S. Main Street, Lombard, with a Funeral Service at 5 PM. Interment Friday, March 18, at 10:30 AM at Forest Hill Cemetery, Glen Ellyn, IL.  

In lieu of flowers, memorials in William’s name may be made to St. John’s Ev. Lutheran Church, General Fund, 215 S. Lincoln St., Lombard, IL  60148.
